Welcome to a new year, y’all! The past month brought Fairbanks record snow, record rain & record cold during the darkest month of the year. Here’s to the new year bringing more light, more opportunity & more community.

For many, the winter holidays are challenging. In a time that celebrates togetherness & home those who have neither struggle. Alaskans like to pride ourselves on our self-reliance, but the truth is that we’re stronger together. If you or someone you know are in crisis, is a survivor (of an attempt, or have lost someone to suicide), are grieving or struggling with your mental health you can call the Careline anytime at 1-877-266-4357 (HELP). Or, just come have a cup of coffee with us. The Bread Line is a place for everyone & that includes you.

Community is how we lift each other up. The Bread Line provides hot, nutritious meals for Fairbanks’ most vulnerable neighbors during these dark, cold winters. This past December, the Bread Line’s soup kitchen, the Stone Soup Cafe, served over 3,000 meals. Additionally, Bread Line Chefs provided 1,705 contract meals to Tanana Chiefs’ Housing First & 140 meals to Fairbanks’ Boys & Girls Club. In 2021, the soup kitchen volunteers put in an incredible 1,710 shifts to serve 47,115 meals. It’s just incredible how Fairbanksans give.

As we continue to navigate these difficult days, we are grateful to be in commUNITY with people like you. As Helen Keller said, “Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much.” Thank you for another year of helping feed people & affirm lives!
