The Bread Line is hiring for a Production Chef!
Production Chef at the Bread Line is a physical, multifaceted role: providing over 16,000 contract meals annually, doing community outreach & teaching in our kitchen. This position starts later in the morning & makes meals for Tanana Chiefs Housing First program. We are seeking a self-motivated team player with a heart for anti-hunger work who is flexible, compassionate & an excellent communicator. The Production Chef is a critical part of our culinary job training program but primarily is responsible for creating healthy, nutritious lunch & dinner meal service on a cycle menu. This is a unique job to do something different with your skills in a social services setting.
The Production Chef is part of the Bread Line’s Stone’s Throw culinary job training program & is responsible for making/recording weekly menus, ordering for the program within budget, time-bound daily meal production made to specifications & inter-agency communications. During the Bread Line’s in-house culinary job training program sessions, the Production Chef teaches real-time kitchen job skills to students, under the instruction of the Stone’s Throw Program Manager. During the year, there are also opportunities to lead hands-on community outreach (such as live cooking demos & fundraising events) in collaboration with other local nonprofits. Multiple programs use one kitchen at the Bread Line & staff must be able to share space while working cleanly at the highest standard of sanitation. ServSafe certification (can test/renew in-house), drivers license & background checks are required. Must be able to stand for long periods & lift up to #25 regularly. Past experience with professional cooking is preferred but we will train the right person.
Full-time & year-round with a very flexible schedule, room to grow & generous PTO
